Recent lab work is required before receiving an Iron IV infusion to confirm iron deficiency, ensure eligibility, and determine the appropriate dose. If you already have recent qualifying lab results, they may be submitted for review. If additional testing is needed, we can arrange the necessary lab work.
Lab work is an additional cost and is not included in the IV infusion price. Your infusion will be scheduled after your lab results have been reviewed and approved.
WHY IV IRON?
Iron is essential for producing hemoglobin, which helps red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body. When iron levels are low, you may experience symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, headaches, or difficulty concentrating.
IV iron may be recommended when oral iron is not effective, is not well tolerated, or when iron needs to be replenished more directly. Eligibility for IV iron is based on your symptoms, medical history, and recent laboratory results.
Iron IV therapy delivers iron directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract. This may be an option for individuals who have difficulty tolerating oral iron or who have not adequately improved with oral supplementation.
Your dose and infusion plan will be determined based on your recent lab results and individual needs.
IRON IV INFUSION INCLUDES:
- Iron sucrose
- Normal saline
- IV administration and monitoring
- 100 mg or 200 mg dose, as appropriate
WHY IS LAB WORK REQUIRED BEFORE AN IRON IV?
Iron IV therapy is not something we administer based on symptoms alone. Recent blood work is required to confirm iron deficiency and help determine whether IV iron is appropriate for you.
Your lab results allow our medical team to evaluate important markers such as your hemoglobin, ferritin, iron levels, and iron saturation before approving your infusion. This also helps us determine the appropriate dose and whether additional evaluation may be needed before proceeding.
If you already have recent lab results, you can provide them for review. If you do not have the required labs, we can arrange your blood work for an additional cost. Lab work is not included in the Iron IV infusion price.
Once your results have been reviewed and you are approved for Iron IV therapy, we can schedule your infusion at our San Marcos office.
